​Garden Studio

Sandyriggs Loan 

The client’s brief was to create a self-contained garden studio to provide a flexible live work space.  The design was developed to offer a tranquil place for our client to work from home without disturbing their young family. The space accommodates multiple functions including office, entertaining and sleeping accommodation.  

The interior was designed as a piece of furniture that could adapt to provide multiple spatial configurations. A central sliding screen allows the space to be subdivided and a fold down bed is concealed as an integrated element.

The garden studio’s position and size was carefully considered to ensure it met permitted development requirements for planning and also exemption from building regulation approval. The changing eaves height is a key feature of the design and the timber detailing was developed as a contextual response to the garden and perimeter fence.
