A Georgian Home
Forehouse
The project originated from our client’s decision to move from the city to the countryside - to find a home with more space, a garden and direct access to the countryside for family walks. Forehouse presented a unique opportunity to fulfil this dream and our clients fell in love with the symmetry, proportion and understated character of this wonderful Georgian house.
‘The opportunity of creating a really curious and interesting home marrying up the main house to the two wings and garden, is why we find ourselves embarking on such a project.’
Our proposals open up the rear of the property, simplify circulation and re-establish the generous proportions and order of the original house. This is achieved through the introduction of a glazed link that connects the house, side wings and the courtyard. A new kitchen connects the principle living spaces and acts as a transitional space between the old and new.
The two wings are transformed through enhanced volume, exposed structure and natural light. The new spaces open-up to a walled garden and courtyard to the south allowing this aspect and orientation to be enjoyed. The internal spaces have been designed to accommodate home working and self-contained guest accommodation.
Our clients wanted the house to feel like a retreat for their family and friends to visit and stay.
The proposals create a warm and welcoming environment for entertaining and in parallel provide functional spaces that support our clients daily rituals.
